About this Guess the Flag quiz

Guess the flag is one of the most popular geography games in the world, and this round packs 15 flags into a few quick minutes. It starts with ones most people know, such as the red disc on white, and climbs to real challenges from the Pacific, Central Asia and southern Africa. Each question shows the flag as a picture. Pick the country, see if you are right, and read a short note on what the colours and symbols mean.

This guess the flag game suits teenagers and adults, quiz-night teams and students revising world geography. Teachers can put it on a classroom screen as a warm-up, and families can play it together on one phone. Your score appears straight away, and the full list of guess the flag answers is printed lower on the page, so you can check every result or study before trying again.

Flags are easier to remember once you know the story behind them. Many share colours for a reason. Green, yellow and red recur across Africa because of Ethiopia's long independence. Look-alike pairs, such as Ireland and Cote d'Ivoire, become simple once you remember which colour sits next to the flagpole.

Fun fact: Nepal has the only national flag in the world that is not a rectangle. It is made from two stacked pennants and is taller than it is wide.
