About this Bollywood quiz

This Bollywood quiz takes you on a quick tour of Hindi cinema, from the silent era to modern hits. The 15 questions start easy, with famous villains, nicknames and catchphrases, then move into film history that even keen fans can get wrong: India's first talkie, the first full-length feature film, and the first winner of the country's highest film honour.

It mixes several kinds of Bollywood quiz questions. A few are classic dialogue questions where you match a famous line to its film, some are lighter, funny picks about memorable characters, and others are odd-one-out and 'which of these was NOT' questions that test whether you really know your directors and award history. Every answer comes with a short explanation, so you learn something even when you miss.

The quiz suits teenagers and adults, film buffs who grew up on Sholay and DDLJ, and anyone preparing Bollywood trivia for a party, a family game night or an office quiz round. Play it alone to check your score, or read the questions aloud and let a group shout out answers.

Here is a fact worth remembering: Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge has played at Mumbai's Maratha Mandir cinema almost every day since October 1995. It overtook Sholay as the longest-running Indian film back in 2001, and no other Indian film has come close since. If you came looking for a Hindi movie quiz, this is it: every question is about Hindi cinema.
