About this Pop Culture quiz

This pop culture quiz tests how well you know the films, TV shows, music, games and gadgets that everyone ends up talking about. The 15 questions travel from 1980s classics to recent global hits, so there is something here whether you grew up with MTV and the Rubik's Cube or with streaming series and K-pop.

The quiz starts with friendly warm-ups about wizards, superheroes and sitcom hangouts, then builds to tougher pop culture trivia on box-office records, Oscar history and the very first video MTV ever played. Every answer comes with a short explanation, so even the ones you miss leave you with a story to tell. If you only came for an 80's pop culture quiz, look out for the questions on Thriller, MTV and the Rubik's Cube.

It suits teens and adults, and it works well as an icebreaker at parties, in office breaks or during a family quiz night. Play it on your own first, then share your score and challenge friends to beat it. When you are done, the pop culture quiz questions and answers are listed in the answer key below, so you can check anything you were unsure of.

A fun fact to take away: when Avatar became the highest-grossing film ever in 2010, the record it broke belonged to James Cameron's own earlier film, Titanic.
