About this Bollywood Dialogues quiz

This Bollywood dialogues quiz is a guess-the-dialogue game for anyone who grew up quoting Hindi films. You get a famous line or scene, from Gabbar's legend in Sholay and 'Mere paas maa hai' to Geet's 'Main apni favourite hoon', and you name the film or the character. The lines run from the 1950s to Uri in 2019.

Most questions give you part of the line and one more clue, such as the actor, the year or the scene, so even if the exact film slips your mind you can still work it out. A few go behind the camera: the shoot that happened without its heroine, the epic that came back in colour, and the dialogue a Prime Minister borrowed. Every answer comes with a short explanation.

Play it alone, or read the dialogues out at a movie night or party and let the room shout the film. The full list of questions and answers is printed below the quiz for anyone hosting. Fun fact: when Barack Obama quoted Shah Rukh Khan's 'Senorita' line in Delhi in 2015, the crowd's cheering held up his speech.
