About this Logo quiz

This logo quiz is about the stories hidden inside famous logos: the arrow in Amazon's smile, the jigsaw globe of Wikipedia, the four rings of Audi, the three-pointed Mercedes star, the hidden 31 in Baskin-Robbins and the painter behind the Chupa Chups daisy. Each question describes a logo or its history, and you pick the brand or the meaning from four options.

It is a quiz on logos for anyone who notices brand marks everywhere: students, designers, marketers and quiz teams looking for a fun round. Every answer comes with a short explanation, so these logo quiz answers teach you something even when you guess wrong. Play it solo or read the questions out at a party, then compare scores.

One fact to take away: some of the most famous logos started as something else entirely, like Mitsubishi's three diamonds, which come straight from the company's name.

Logo questions with answers

Show answers
  1. Which online store's logo has an arrow running from the 'a' to the 'z', curved like a smile?

    • Flipkart
    • eBay
    • Amazon
    • Alibaba

Answer: Amazon. The arrow says the store sells everything from A to Z, and the curve doubles as a smile. The design agency Turner Duckworth created it.

  2. Which website's logo is an unfinished globe made of jigsaw pieces, each marked with a letter from a different writing system?

    • Google
    • Wikipedia
    • Mozilla
    • Duolingo

Answer: Wikipedia. The gaps in the globe stand for an encyclopedia that is never finished, and the letters reflect the hundreds of languages Wikipedia is written in.

  3. In 2019, which brand dropped its own name from its logo, keeping just two overlapping red and yellow circles?

    • Mastercard
    • Visa
    • RuPay
    • American Express

Answer: Mastercard. Mastercard decided the circles were recognised on their own. Very few brands go name-free; Nike's swoosh is the best-known example.

  4. Audi's logo is four interlocking rings. What do they stand for?

    • Four founding brothers
    • Four companies that merged in 1932
    • The four wheels of a car
    • Four racing championships

Answer: Four companies that merged in 1932. Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer came together as Auto Union in 1932. Horch and Audi had both been founded by the same engineer, August Horch.

  5. Mercedes-Benz says the three points of its star stand for motoring on land, on water and where else?

    • In the air
    • In space
    • On rails
    • Underground

Answer: In the air. The star stood for the founders' ambition to power travel on land, on water and in the air.

  6. Which Japanese company's name means 'three diamonds', the shape of its logo?

    • Mitsui
    • Mazda
    • Mitsubishi
    • Suzuki

Answer: Mitsubishi. Mitsu means three and hishi means water chestnut, the Japanese word also used for a diamond shape. Mitsui, a different group, means 'three wells'.

  7. Which ice-cream brand hides the number 31 inside the letters of its logo?

    • Häagen-Dazs
    • Ben & Jerry's
    • Dairy Queen
    • Baskin-Robbins

Answer: Baskin-Robbins. The pink parts of the B and R form '31', a flavour for every day of the month. The hidden number survived the brand's 2022 redesign.

  8. Twitter's blue bird logo had a name, borrowed from a Boston Celtics basketball great. What was it?

    • Larry
    • Michael
    • Kobe
    • Magic

Answer: Larry. Co-founder Biz Stone confirmed the bird was named after Larry Bird. The bird was retired in 2023 when Twitter became X.

  9. LIC's logo shows two hands sheltering a lamp, with the motto 'Yogakshemam Vahamyaham'. Which text does the motto come from?

    • Rigveda
    • Bhagavad Gita
    • Ramayana
    • Arthashastra

Answer: Bhagavad Gita. The line is from verse 9.22 of the Bhagavad Gita and speaks of looking after the welfare of those who depend on you, a fitting promise for an insurer.

  10. The daisy-shaped Chupa Chups lollipop logo was designed in 1969 by which painter?

    • Pablo Picasso
    • Joan Miró
    • René Magritte
    • Salvador Dalí

Answer: Salvador Dalí. Salvador Dalí, the surrealist best known for his melting clocks, drew the daisy design. A version of it is still on the wrapper.
